Welcome to El Hogar Tour
October 2005

Introduction
This 5 day tour is designed for those who may be interested in experiencing an in-depth visit to El Hogar that is not a mission trip and will not include any project work. The Rev. Rich Kunz, the Executive Director of El Hogar Projects, will host this tour. The tour will include time at all three of our centers, as well as time visiting the neighborhoods that our boys come from, as well as other locations around Tegucigalpa. You will spend time with El Hogar boys of all ages, and will have ample time to learn more about El Hogar directly from Rich and other El Hogar staff. The purpose of this tour is to offer an exclusive opportunity for a more intimate and focused experience of El Hogar as a whole, and to allow those with an interest in this project to deepen their knowledge. We hope the tour is a moving and enlightening experience of this ministry, and it stimulates reflection, love, spiritual growth, and potentially action, on the part of the participants.

Dates of Tour
We are targeting October 18-22, 2005 for the dates of this tour, but depending on the schedules and constraints of those expressing interest, there may be some flexibility in the early stages of the tour planning and preparation. Once dates are settled however, there can be no changes.

Flights
The tour members are responsible for purchasing their own plane ticket to Tegucigalpa. Flights to Tegucigalpa leave the US from either Miami or Houston, and most flights arrive in Tegucigalpa in the early to mid afternoon. We will aim to coordinate flights so arrivals of tour members are close in time.

Cost of the Tour
The cost per person for the tour is $800.00 US. This fee needs to be paid to El Hogar Ministries by September 1, 2006.

What is included?

Lodging
The cost of the tour includes all lodging, food and travel expenses in Honduras. Tour members will stay at the Hotel Maya, one of the best hotels in Tegucigalpa. El Hogar will handle all reservations and payments for rooms. If you have specific room requests, such as double or single, or non-smoking, we will make every effort to honor those requests. All tips are included in the cost of the tour.

Meals
Breakfast will be a buffet provided by the Hotel Maya, and includes a wide range of local and American foods.

Lunch will be eaten either at a local restaurant or at one of the El Hogar centers. When at El Hogar, lunch will be the same meal prepared for the boys.

Most dinners will be eaten at a local restaurant, with some eaten with the boys at El Hogar. When at El Hogar, tour members will eat the same meal prepared for the boys. When dining out, meals include one drink. Subsequent drinks are the responsibility of the tour member.

If a tour member has any dietary restrictions, we will make note of that that do everything we can to accommodate those needs. Tips for all meals are included in the cost of the tour.

Transportation in Honduras
The tour members will be met at the airport upon arrival and driven by van to the Hotel Maya. All excursions to El Hogar, its three centers, and all tour excursions to other locations in and around Tegucigalpa will be provided by El Hogar. It is expected that all members of the tour will travel together, as a group. If any member wishes to stay behind for any excursion or activity, they are free to do so, but they will need to arrange their own transportation if needed. Tour members will be returned to the airport for departure.

Activities include:

  • Tour of and time spent at El Hogar de Amor y Esperanza (the elementary level school)
  • Tour of and time spent at the Technical Institute located in the Amarateca Valley, outside of Tegucigalpa
  • Tour of and time spent at the Agricultural School and Farm, in Talanga, one hour outside of Tegucigalpa
  • One or two visits to homes and neighborhoods from which the boys of El Hogar come
  • Recreational time spent with boys, playing and interacting
  • Some meals spent with the boys, eating the food they eat, in the family style in which they eat
  • Most meals at restaurants in or around Tegucigalpa
  • A visit to nearby Santa Lucia, a small quaint artisan town just outside of Tegucigalpa
  • Some evenings or afternoons spent as free time at the hotel, resting and relaxing
  • A departure event with the boys, with music and speeches and goodbye activities
  • Time with Rich Kunz and other staff members, to ask questions and develop a deeper sense of the work and ministry of El Hogar
