How you can financially support El Hogar
Sponsor a child
El Hogar’s sponsorship program gives you the opportunity to directly support and establish a relationship with an individual child. Your sponsored child will write to you several times throughout the year, and you are encouraged to write to them. Your child will deeply value the interest, love and caring you show to them as their sponsor; they know someone far away cares enough about them to support them on their journey at El Hogar.
Four levels of sponsorship are available, each contributing a different proportion to the actual $5,400 cost of caring for the child:
- $75 per month / $900 annually – provides one-sixth of the annual cost
- $150 per month / $1,800 annually – provides one-third of the annual cost
- $200 per month / $2,400 annually – provides almost half of the annual cost
- $450 per month / $5,400 annually – provides 100 percent of the annual cost
You will receive a Canadian tax receipt for the full value of your contribution.

This program provides funding for academic materials, facilities upkeep, learning technology, and teacher support. Three levels of financial support are available:
- Level 1: $25 per month / $300 per year
This level pays for textbooks and program materials for students in our classrooms, as well as student enrichment activities such as music and art. At our agricultural school, it helps pay for animal feed, seeds for planting, and veterinary services.
- Level 2: $40 per month / $480 per year
This level pays for computers and other technology equipment used in our classrooms, as well as maintenance and repairs to our vehicles and equipment (including those that transport children to school and programs). At our technical school, it helps pay for machinery and supplies such as wood and metal.
- Level 3: $65 per month / $780 per year
This level helps pay the salaries of our classroom teachers and counselors (an average of $8,000 per year), as well as the costs of ongoing teacher training.

Get involved with El Hogar
Work at El Hogar on a Service Team
Joining a Service Team is an excellent way to experience the profound impact of El Hogar first-hand while helping contribute to the betterment of our facilities.
Whether you are a church group, community group, or youth group, you can put together a Service Team. Teams can travel to Honduras at most times of the year (except from mid-November to February, when the children are out of school). You will be helping with physical projects such as landscaping, construction, or painting. Click here to learn more.
Hold a fundraising event
We invite you to put together an event, whether large or small, to raise money that supports the work of El Hogar.
Supporters of El Hogar in the Toronto area have held major events, such as the October 2015 Rally for Hope, a ‘four wheel scavenger hunt’ around mid-town Toronto that was followed by a reception, dinner, plus plus a silent and live auction. Some other examples include ‘Adopt-A-Child’ events held by churches during Lent, Flea Markets, as well as sales of decorated Easter Eggs and decorated Gingerbread churches for Christmas.
If you wish to hold a fundraising event, please get in touch with the Chair of El Hogar Projects (Canada), Margo Mingay, by clicking here.
