El Hogar has been fortunate to have a strong connection to Canada for many years through the generosity and dedication of a large number of hard-working people:
Margo Mingay and her husband, Rev. Dr. David Winsor, both from Toronto, served as the Co-Executive Directors of El Hogar Projects from 1998-2000. They are each still involved in supporting El Hogar. Margo Mingay is the Sponsor Assignment Coordinator and Service Team Coordinator for the U.S. and Canada. Sponsorship and Service Team enquiries can be directed to Margo at mmingay@elhogar.org.
Rev. Dr. David Winsor spreads the word of El Hogar through speaking engagements at churches and organizations throughout the US and Canada. If you are interested in contacting Rev. Winsor to schedule a speaking event, please contact him directly at dwinsor454@sympatico.ca.
In 2011, the Canadian supporters applied for and received Canadian Federal Government charitable status, incorporating as El Hogar Projects (Canada). This change allows for greater flexibility for fund-raising for and awareness of the needs of our El Hogar children. Margo Mingay currently serves as the Chair of El Hogar Projects (Canada). The other Canadian board members are; Kim Echlin, Susan Franklin, Neal Kelly, Bill Meeker, Rick Reycraft, and Kate Roscoe.
In the Greater Toronto Area there is committed support from several churches that raise funds, send service teams, and keep El Hogar's profile before their people. We are profoundly grateful for the ongoing commitment of:
- Leaside United Church, Toronto
- Kingsway Lambton Untied Church, Toronto
- St. Luke's Anglican Church, Burlington
- Timothy Eaton Memorial Church, Toronto
We also have great support from concerned and caring individuals in the Vancouver Area. Kent Bubbs through his Universal Outreach Foundation (Canadian Charity) has been instrumental in numerous projects.
There are many ways you can support El Hogar. Below are some suggestions for how you can become involved. For more information, email enquiries to elhogarcanada@bell.net or call 416-696-7682.

Supporters throughout Canada engage in a long list of activities:

Two service teams will visit El Hogar this year under the leadership of Margo Mingay.

Leaside United Church held a Celtic Dance in February, sent a Service Team in March, and a Coffee House evening with live music from the era of the British invasion, refreshments, and silent auction was held on April 13th.

St. Luke’s Anglican organized an “Adopt-A-Child” program for Lent raising over $8,000.00, sent a Service team in April, and decorated Easter Eggs.

Timothy Eaton is sending a Service Team in August; Kingsway-Lambton held a Bake Sale during their Annual Flea Market raising over $2,300.00, and hosted Matt Engleby for the Annual Walkathon on May 27th. During his visit, Matt preached at Kingsway-Lambton United Church, participated in a Pub Night fund-raiser, enjoyed a pot-luck supper/meet and greet at the home of Margo Mingay and David Winsor, and visited with supporters at St. Luke’s Anglican Church.

The Vancouver supporters sent a Service Team in May under the leadership of Kelly Von Unen and have raised significant dollars through their various activities and donors.

El Hogar Projects (Canada) held a launch of the newly registered charity with an interactive dinner at Cirillo’s Culinary Academy in Toronto on September 18th. While the focus of the event was the introduction and toast to EHPC, $4250.00 was raised through a Silent Auction and a raffle.
Our sponsorship program offers a relationship with a specific child. Your child will write to you a few times throughout the year and, if you would like, you are encouraged to write to them. Our children are very moved by the interest, love and caring they feel through this sponsorship program; they know someone far away cares enough about them to help support them at El Hogar.
There are four kinds of sponsorships:
Educational - $600 a year or $50 / month
Housing -
$900 a year or $75 / month
Full -
$1500 a year or $125 / month
Double -
$3000 a year or $250 / month
If you live in Canada and wish to begin a sponsorship, please contact Margo Mingay at mmingay@elhogar.org
If you have additional questions about sponsorships, they
may be answered on our Sponsorship FAQs page.
There are many needs at El Hogar. An unrestricted gift of $60 feeds 80 little children for one day. $500 pays a teacher’s salary for one month. $100 buys drinking water at the Farm for one year. $1000 feeds all 250 children for one week.

Service teams travel to El Hogar for a week and spend time doing a project for the school, and becoming acquainted with our children. Teams learn to be servants to others and see the transformation of the lives of these children. Read more about how
you can join an El Hogar service team.
